Music and Bands

The P0yntzpass area has a rich tradition of idividual instrument players, singers and formal bands.

In February 1939, the Portadown Times reported on a fund-raising Tea run by the ladies of Poyntzpass Presbyterian Church in the Legion Hall. Part of the entertainment was provided by the Poyntzpass Jazz Band, consisting of E Harcourt (piano), Fred Hanna (piano-accordion), J Morgan (trumpet), W Clarke and W Moore (violins), J Vennard (jazz outfit(!)) and T Vennard (saxophone).

1951, August – Poyntzpass Conservative Flute Band announces that it is about to disband[1]. But it will be reborn as a Silver Band. By November, £590 has been raised for the purchase of new instruments. [Portadown News]…. Other bands….
